Did SMU Coach Take Shot at Clemson Football After Loss?

CLEMSON — Following Clemson’s four-point win over SMU on Wednesday night, Mustangs head coach Andy Enfield was not in the best of moods as he made his way into the media room at Littlejohn Coliseum.

After the Tigers knocked off the No. 24 Mustangs, Enfield made his way down to meet with assembled media and upon entering for his postgame presser, the head coach took a shot at the size of the media room inside the arena.

“Y’all should use some of that football money to build a bigger room,” Enfield quipped.

While the remark drew some laughs from the assembled media, Enfield was visibly displeased with his team’s performance in the loss.

“This was more about us. We beat ourselves, especially in the first half,” Enfield said. “We just really did some uncharacteristic things.”

SMU came into Wednesday’s game averaging 91.5 points per game, 14th in the country. However, against the Tigers, they scored 25 first-half points. The Mustangs shot 8-for-24 from the field in the first 20 minutes and 1-for-6 from behind the arc.

Clemson held SMU to just 37% from the field and just 6-of-17 from beyond the arc, with the Tigers forcing 13 turnovers, including five steals.

With the win over SMU, Clemson improved to 2-0 in Quad 1 games this season. The Tigers’ other Quad 1 win came against No. 18 Georgia on Nov. 23 in the Charleston Classic.

Clemson opened ACC play 3-0. It marks the third time in the last four seasons, the Tigers have opened conference action with a 3-0 record.

Clemson will now hit the road for the third time in four games to start the ACC season on Saturday, as the Tigers travel to South Bend, Ind., to face Notre Dame at the Joyce Center. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
