With the current NCAA contact period in full swing, some Clemson assistants have hit the road recruiting. Coaches are allowed to visit with high school prospects for most of January.
Offensive line coach Matt Luke has made several stops, including checking in on four-star target Carter Jones (Posquon, VA), who picked up one of the Tigers’ opening offers last summer. Jones has been a frequent visitor to campus and will return for the Elite Retreat on March 7.
“They definitely are still a top school for me,” Jones recently told TCI. “Knowing (Coach Swinney), and knowing their vision at Clemson, I know they are going to keep working for it and keep pushing. One bad season in ten years doesn’t define them. They will keep working towards it, and they are going to do it the right way, too.”
Luke was in to see four-star in-state target Nate Carson (Irmo) this week. Carson notched his offer in October. He currently holds close to two dozen offers and is considered one of the top players in the state.
Wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham was in to see four-star WR target DJ Huggins (Harrison, GA) this week. Huggins picked up an offer from the Tigers in October. He worked out at camp last summer, then made two game-day visits during the season. He is one of just two 2027 receivers to hold an offer from Clemson. His next visit is set for the Elite Retreat in March.
Running backs coach C.J. Spiller was in to visit his top target, four-star in-state back Tre Segarra (Byrnes). In fact, Segarra is the only back in the class to pick up an offer from the Tigers so far. Segarra worked out at camp last summer and was on campus twice for game-day visits during the season. He is one of the five-best running backs in the class, per 247Sports.
Assistant quarterbacks coach Tajh Boyd visited with four-star QB commit Kharim Hughley (Gainesville, GA) earlier this week. Hughley committed to the Tigers back in July, about a week after picking up his offer. He is expected to be the only take at the position in the class. Being one of the coaches out on the road recruiting is a sign of Boyd’s role being elevated under new offensive coordinator Chad Morris.
