A former Clemson wide receiver found the end zone in Friday night’s College Football Playoff Semifinal matchup at the Peach Bowl.
E.J. Williams scored a touchdown for top-seeded Indiana in their 56-22 rout over No. 5 seed Oregon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Williams hauled in a 13-yard touchdown pass from Indiana quarterback and 2025 Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza with 8:52 remaining in the third quarter, giving the Hoosiers a 42-7 lead at the time. It was Williams’ lone catch of the contest.
Williams entered Friday’s game with 35 receptions for 425 yards and five touchdowns this season, his third at Indiana following three seasons at Clemson from 2020-2022.
Williams, a former four-star prospect from Phenix City, Ala., recorded 40 catches for 442 yards and two touchdowns in 888 offensive snaps over 33 games (six starts) during his career at Clemson.
In Williams’ first year at Indiana in 2023, he caught 23 passes for 281 yards over eight games. In 2024, he caught two passes for 49 yards while appearing in four games. He entered the transfer portal in Week 9 and redshirted the season. He later removed his name from the portal and decided to head back to Indiana for his sixth season in college football.
Williams and the Hoosiers will face the 10th-seeded Miami Hurricanes in the College Football Playoff National Championship at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. on Monday, January 19 (7:30 p.m., ESPN).
