Clemson has now added a portal piece on the offensive side of the ball.
SMU transfer RB Chris Johnson Jr. has committed to the Tigers while on a visit. He is the first portal addition for the Tigers for new offensive coordinator Chad Morris.
Being one of the fastest backs in the nation, Johnson adds an interesting dynamic to a running back room that already features rising sophomore Godeon Davidson.
Johnson rushed 479 yards and four touchdowns as a redshirt sophomore with the Mustangs in 2025, averaging more than seven yards per carry. He also had 17 catches for another 180 yards and a score.
The 6-foot, 185-pound back originally was a one-time Clemson target coming out of high school, but he would go on to sign with Miami as a member of the 2023 recruiting class. He then redshirted during his debut season, before tallying six carries for 31 yards in 2024.
Johnson is the second portal player to commit to Clemson on Sunday, joining Howard defensive end CJ Wesley. The Tigers have now landed 10 total portal targets over the past week, with nine of those coming on the defensive side of the ball.
