CLEMSON — Remember when Dabo Swinney would go on one of his classic rants, griping about things like professionalism in college athletics, the ROY Bus, he’s famous, “There is only one Carolina” or berating Tyler from Spartanburg and, of course, his infamous rant on “Clemsoning.”
These are all rants that ESPN, FOX Sports, CBS and NBC did not hesitate to put on the air. Guys like Stephen A. Smith, Skip Bayless, Max Kellerman, Paul Finebaum, and Colin Cowherd wasted no time in any of those instances in throwing Swinney and his comments right under the bus.
Where are they now?
Where are they when the Ole Miss, LSU and Miami are clearly tampering with the athletes and coaxing them into leaving school or breaking contracts in the pursuit of the Almighty dollar?
Where were they Monday after linebacker Luke Ferrelli left Clemson like the Mayflower trucks leaving Baltimore? Allegedly, Ferrelli was in a Clemson classroom receiving texts messages from Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding last Friday, when he was not even in the portal.
Again, that was allegedly. But less than 24 hours after re-entering the transfer portal, guess where Ferrelli’s going to play football in 2026?
You guessed it, Ole Miss!
Then there is the whole Darian Mensah saga at Duke. Miami, fresh off losing in the national title game and desperately needing a quarterback, goes in and poaches Mensah, though he is under contract at Duke.
Duke is suing Mensah and Miami, as it should.
Washington’s Donald Williams briefly entered the transfer portal, with what was reported to be aspirations to go to LSU, though he was under contract with Washington. However, Washington threatened legal actions, forcing Williams to return.
Former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson claimed Tennessee offered him $4 million to come play for them, though he was not in the transfer portal.
UConn’s Jim Mora Jr., has publicly threatened to name and shame schools that tamper with his players. I can go on and on with the different examples.
Cheating is happening all over the place, and the NCAA and everyone else act as if it is okay for some reason. No one is holding anyone accountable.
Sure, some college football guys like FOX’s Joe Klatt have spoken up, but none of the big wigs have, like they do if Swinney goes on a rant of some sort.
I mean, maybe I am wrong, but I have not heard Pat McAfee discuss all the tampering issues going on during his show. Outside of Clemson, has anyone at ESPN, and I am not talking about the website, talked about what Ferrelli and Ole Miss have done?
Has it been on College Football Live? Maybe I have missed it. Has the topic come up on Get Up or First Take? Again, maybe I missed it.
Or maybe they just are not talking about it, which is a travesty. Schools are out the blatantly tampering with athletes and no one in the mainstream media is even talking about what is happening.
I guarantee you, if Dabo Swinney said something about the transfer portal, NIL or got huffy with a fan, they would talk about it.
