Elite Retreat Will Mark First Visit for Georgia Lineman

The Elite Retreat is shaping up to be a star-studded affair.

Like usual, the annual recruiting event, which will be held on March 7 this year, will feature some of Clemson’s most high-profile recruiting targets. At the same time, there will also be some unoffered prospects making their first visit to campus.

One of those is three-star OL Shavezz Dixon (Lee County, GA). This will mark his first visit to Clemson. Matt Luke has been recruiting Dixon since late last year, which culminated in the Tigers’ offensive line coach visiting him twice during the contact period.

“About two months ago, I just got a random text from a random number. I was like, ‘Who is this?'” Dixon told The Clemson Insider. “I think it was just a graphic or something. It was from coach Matt Luke. I was like, ‘Wow, that is dope,’ and ever since then we have just been building.”

Despite not yet having an offer from the Tigers, Dixon, who was a first-team all-state player last season, is still starting to feel like a priority.

“The thing with Clemson, you have to come to campus to get the offer,” he said. “But it makes me feel like a priority. I have been on the phone with coach Matt Luke, both assistant offensive line coaches and the offensive coordinator, so I have really been feeling the love, and that is big for me.”

Over the past couple of months, the relationship between Luke and Dixon has begun to blossom.

“It just gets bigger and bigger,” Dixon said. “At first, it was just simple conversations, but when he came down to my school that first visit, that was big for me. We actually got to get deep into the reason behind the way they do things, and it all makes sense. Then the second dinner, we went out to eat and got some dinner together.”

While Dixon is hoping to land an offer once making that first visit, that’s not all he’s looking forward to. The 6-foot-4, 325-pounder is also anxiously awaiting the opportunity to meet head coach Dabo Swinney.

“Just getting to meet Dabo Swinney,” Dixon said. “Getting on campus, seeing how that is. And continuing to build those relationships.”

However, make no mistake, Dixon absolutely wants the offer.

“It would mean the world to me,” Dixon said. “Just because, for them to look at me as a fit for their program, from my personality, to how physical I am, how I play my game and how comfortable I am, it would definitely mean the world to me.”

Virginia, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Wake Forest all offered in January. Ole Miss, Arkansas, Georgia Tech and Texas A&M are a handful of his other offers.

At some point in the near future, Dixon plans to begin the process of arranging a top schools list, and ann offer from the Tigers would make Clemson a legitimate contender.

“I am going to drop a top eight or top twelve very soon,” Dixon said. “Receiving a Clemson offer would automatically put them as a top contender for me.”
