Hopkins Isn’t Ready to Retire Just Yet

DeAndre Hopkins is 33 years old and a 13-year NFL veteran, who is set to be a free agent again this offseason.

However, the former Clemson star wide receiver isn’t ready to hang up his cleats just yet.

Hopkins showed during the 2025 season that he’s still got plenty of gas left in the tank, and he said recently that he isn’t calling it a career.

“I am not retiring,” Hopkins said on the “Pardon My Take” podcast. “I averaged 15 yards a catch last year, man.”

Hopkins spent the 2025 season with the Baltimore Ravens after signing a one-year deal with the team last March. In 17 games with Baltimore, he hauled in 22 receptions for 330 yards and two touchdowns, averaging (as he mentioned) exactly 15.0 yards per reception – just shy of his career high of 15.9 yards per reception back in 2014, his second NFL season.

Hopkins, a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro, plans to play at least one more season.

“I love this game. I know I can keep playing this game,” he said on “The Lounge” podcast. “I know I can go out and beat what teams call their No. 1 DB, as you guys saw the first game of the year. The first catch, first touchdown that I had was against one of the highest-paid DBs in the game [Bills’ Christian Benford]. So, for myself, I know what I can do, and I know I’ve still got some years left.

“But who knows, man. I definitely want to play. I know I want to play one more year for sure. … I enjoy the game, and I embrace everything that comes with it.”

With free agency looming, has Hopkins had any thoughts about potentially returning to Baltimore to once again play alongside the likes of Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, running back Derrick Henry, and fellow receiver Zay Flowers?

“I’ve had some thoughts, of course,” Hopkins said. “A lot of thoughts. Lot of thoughts. But, I mean, I love Lamar, I love Derrick, I love Zay Flowers. So, who knows, man. But they have a new head coach [Jesse Minter], which will bring on a new offensive coordinator [Declan Doyle], and let’s see. Let’s see.”

Hopkins has amassed 1,006 receptions for 13,295 yards and 85 touchdowns over 195 games during his Hall of Fame-caliber career with the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs and Ravens since being selected by Houston in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft (No. 27 overall pick).

Hopkins, recently ranked No. 113 in the Pro Football Focus NFL free agent rankings, says his grizzled-veteran hands are feeling better than ever.

“I think even better, man,” he said of his hands. “… I learned a couple little tricks to the trade as I got older, man. How to keep these things up to par.”

Pro Football Focus recently pegged one of Hopkins’ former teams – the Titans – as his best landing spot in free agency.
