Former Tiger Lands Coaching Job under Venables

A former Clemson and NFL defensive lineman has reportedly landed a coaching job at Oklahoma.

DeShawn Williams is joining former Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables’ staff at Oklahoma in an analyst role, according to SoonerScoop.com.

A former Daniel High School standout, Williams played at Clemson from 2011-14, racking up 161 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, 24 quarterback pressures, four pass breakups, one fumble recovery and two blocked kicks over 53 games (17 starts) in his career as a Tiger. He played under Venables for three years from 2012-14.

Originally an undrafted free agent in 2015, Williams spent time with the Bengals, Dolphins, Colts, Bills and Calgary Stampeders of the CFL, to go along with three stints with the Broncos and a couple of stints with the Panthers.

The now 33-year-old registered 164 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks across 78 games (45 starts) in his NFL career.

Williams now joins a Sooners program that went 10-3 in 2025 – Venables’ fourth season as Oklahoma’s head coach. OU made the 12-team College Football Playoff this season, falling at home to Alabama in the first round.
