CLEMSON — Justin LeGuernic tied a career-high with six strikeouts to help lead No. 19 Clemson to a 4-0 win over Army on Saturday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The win secured a three-game sweep for the Tigers.
LeGuernic came on in relief to start the third, striking out six while allowing just three hits in holding the Black Knights scoreless over five innings of work. He picked up his first win of the season.
Dion Brown came on and pitched one scoreless inning of relief, while freshman Danny Nelson pitched a perfect ninth.
Luke Gaffney and Nate Savoie led the way for the Tigers (3-0) offensively. Both went 3-for-4 in the game with two RBI. Tryston McCladdie also drove in two runs, while Jarren Purify reached base four times and scored a run.
With runners on the corners and two outs in the bottom of the third, Savoie drove in his sixth run of the weekend on an infield single to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
The score remained that way until the bottom of the sixth. After Clemson loaded the bases with nobody out, freshman Jason Fultz flied out to right. Jacob Jarrell then hit a sharp ground ball to third, with Savoie scoring on the play to make it 2-0. Savoie had walked to lead off the inning.

A two-run single by Tryston McCladdie and an RBI single by Savoie in the eighth pushed the lead out to 7-0.
Talan Bell got the start for the Tigers, pitching two scoreless innings while allowing two hits.
Putting Up Zeros
Clemson pitchers threw back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2020. You have to go back to the 2001 season for the last time the Tigers shut out a team over both games of a doubleheader.
Going back to Friday’s games, Clemson pitchers have thrown 19 straight innings without allowing a run.
Free Passes
Clemson hitters drew 11 walks in the series finale, with Purify walking three times. After three straight walks loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers made the Black Knights pay as Gaffney laced a single into left, driving in two.
