Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback and former Clemson star Trevor Lawrence is coming off a tremendous 2025 season – his fifth NFL campaign, and first under Jaguars head coach Liam Coen.
Lawrence was named an MVP finalist, as well as a finalist for Comeback Player of the Year. Though he didn’t win either award, it doesn’t take away from the type of season he had while leading the Jaguars (13-4 regular season) to their first AFC South title since 2022 and first playoff berth since 2022.
Lawrence finished the year having completed 60.9 percent of his passes for 4,007 yards and a career-high 29 touchdown passes with 12 interceptions. He also recorded career highs in carries (82), rushing yards (359) and rushing touchdowns (nine) while accounting for a career-high 38 total touchdowns – the third-best mark in the NFL behind only Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (46) and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (39).
In 2025, after years of battling injuries, enduring coaching changes and facing “generational” prospect expectations, Lawrence was seen living up to the hype that made him the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2021.
But as good as he was this past season, Lawrence still has room to grow and get better. So, what’s the next step for the 26-year-old signal caller and Jaguars franchise QB moving forward?
Coen sat down with CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco at Radio Row ahead of Super Bowl LX, and detailed how he wants to see Lawrence take the next step and take his game to another level in 2026.
“I think you look at Trevor having the opportunity for the first time in a while to be healthy during an offseason, and going into Year 2 of a system with the collaboration with Grant Udinski, Spencer Whipple, Shane Waldron, myself, John Van Dam, having an offensive chemistry with the same players,” Coen said.
“We can get a lot better at the details, knowing the why. I think he continued to ascend in that area. And then starting to now challenge some of these rules, challenge some of these coverage structures we see against our own defense, with some of our concepts and schemes, so that he can really start to take his game even further to another level.”
Lawrence clearly made strides throughout the 2025 season as he got more and more comfortable in Coen’s offense. He was stellar over the second half of the season during Jacksonville’s eight-game winning streak – and was especially at his best down the stretch of the regular season, as he earned AFC Offensive Player of the Month for December and the final regular season game on Jan. 4, after going 105-of-165 passing for 1,371 yards, 13 touchdowns and just one interception in his team’s final five games, while also rushing for 124 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries over those contests.
As Coen mentioned, this will be a healthy offseason for Lawrence, different than last offseason when he had to work his way back from shoulder surgery. Lawrence clearly played great football in 2025, but there’s more coming in terms of Coen’s offense and what Lawrence is going to be doing, and Coen is looking for even bigger things from Lawrence next season.
“I was very proud of the way Trevor approached this season and finished this season,” Coen said. “A lot of meat on the bone, though.”
