NCAA.com’s Andy Katz released his new men’s basketball Power 37 rankings this week, stacking up the 37 best teams in the sport.
As expected, Clemson (20-6, 10-3 ACC) dropped in Katz’s power rankings, moving down eight spots from No. 18 to No. 26.
The Tigers are coming off back-to-back losses last week – 76-66 vs. Virginia Tech last Wednesday at Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson, and 67-54 at then-No. 4 Duke on Saturday at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C.
“The Tigers ran into Duke at Cameron,” Katz succinctly summed up in his power rankings article.
Duke moved up one spot to No. 2 in Katz’s latest power rankings, behind only Michigan at No. 1. Houston is No. 3, with Arizona and St. John’s rounding out the top five.
Along with Clemson and Duke, other ACC teams in Katz’s latest Power 37 rankings include Virginia (No. 23), Louisville (No. 24), Miami (No. 27), North Carolina (No. 28) and NC State (No. 32).
Prior to the two-loss week, Clemson had won 13 of its last 14 games. Before the loss at Duke, the Tigers had won 14 consecutive ACC road games dating back to last season – tied for the second longest streak in ACC history (Duke from 1962-64).
Brad Brownell’s Tigers return to the court on Wednesday when they travel to play Wake Forest at LJVM Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C. (7 p.m., ACC Network). Clemson will then return home to host Florida State at Littlejohn Coliseum on Saturday (12 p.m., The CW).
Clemson dropped six spots to No. 24 in the latest Coaches Poll released Monday, while the Tigers dropped all the way out of the AP Top 25 Poll.
