CLEMSON—No. 23 Clemson Tigers run-ruled Baylor 8-0 in five innings on Saturday at McWhorter Stadium, marking the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
This was Clemson’s (9-5) third run-rule win of this weekend. The Tigers remain undefeated in tournament play, while Baylor added their first loss of the Clemson Classic.
Clemson’s offense consistently applied pressure, recording hits in multiple innings and creating scoring opportunities throughout the game. Seven different Tigers put the ball in play today and had 11 combined hits.
Marian Collins led the offense, going 3-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Macey Cintron and Julia Knowler also collected two hits. Jamison Brockenbrough led in RBIs with three.
In the circle, junior Sierra Maness made her fourth start of the season and delivered a strong performance. Maness allowed just two hits, struck out two of 19 batters and maintained control across five innings. Backed by clean defensive play, Clemson prevented Baylor from generating any offensive momentum the entire game.
The Tigers wasted no time creating pressure offensively. A walk from Brockenbrough and a double to left field by Knowler put two runners in scoring position in the first inning. Moments later, a ball deflected off the Baylor pitcher’s glove, allowing Brockenbrough to score and give Clemson an early 1–0 lead.
Clemson extended its lead in the second inning. Corri Hicks and Macey Cintron opened the inning with back-to-back line drives, forcing an early pitching change for Baylor. Kylee Johnson followed with an infield hit to score Hicks. A dropped ball by the catcher during a Baylor double-play attempt allowed Cintron to be safe at home, pushing Clemson’s lead to 3–0.
The Tigers continued to build momentum in the fourth inning. Cintron led off with her second double of the game, and Johnson drew a walk to set up Brockenbrough, who delivered a deep hit to center field to clear the bases and extend the lead to 5–0. Mac Pavese later added an RBI to add one more to the scoreboard.
With a ball way over the center field fence, Collins extended the lead to 7-0 with no outs to start the fifth. A few pitches after, Channell hits one deep to right field, allowing her to move to third with no outs. A passed ball allows Channell to score one more for the Tigers to end the game in a run rule.
