CLEMSON — The Clemson Insider is happy to announce that Ashby Mixon will be joining the TCI Family full time.
Mixon, who graduated from Clemson University in December, has worked as a student writer for TCI since she came on in May of 2023. The Birmingham, Ala., native will be one of our full time staff writers, continuing her coverage of men’s and women’s athletics at Clemson University.
“We are excited to have Ashby come aboard in a full-time capacity. She has done a wonderful job for us the last three years as a student worker and we are excited she wants to begin her career as a journalist with TCI,” publisher and owner Robert MacRae said.
Mixon played high school athletics at Briarwood Christian High School in Birmingham, where she graduated in May of 2022. She started at Clemson that fall and by May of 2022, her freshman year, she was already working for TCI and training for her career in sports journalism.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity Robert is giving me at TCI,” Mixon said. “I have learned so much the last three years working with Will (Vandervort), JP (Jason Priester) and Robert. To get the opportunity to continue to work for TCI, and cover Clemson Athletics on a daily basis, I could not ask for a better opportunity.
“It has been a joy to be a part of the TCI Family and I cannot wait to get started.”

Besides working for TCI, Mixon also had internships at WCCP, The Roar FM (105.5 FM) in Clemson for the last year. At The Roar she has helped produce on all of their local shows, as well as a co-hosted on the Tiger Pregame Show during Clemson Football game days.
This past fall, Mixon interned with Clemson Athletics and with WSPA Channel 7 in Spartanburg, S.C. At Clemson, she wrote feature stories in the school’s game day programs for home football games.
During her time at Channel 7, she worked on high school football Friday nights, while also learning how to write, produce and finalize packages for the news station. She operated the camera, did stand ups and learned how to produce and edit her own stories.
“Ashby is a very talented young lady, who has a very bright future in this profession. We are excited to see her grow in this industry and thankful she will start her journey at TCI,” said MacRae.
