Clemson transfer safeties Jerome Carter and Corey Myrick appeared on the latest episode of Clemson Football’s official podcast, 2 Right Turns, along with new safeties coach Nolan Turner.
Carter and Myrick were asked to give personal player “comps” – a safety at the college or NFL level that they think their game is similar to.
Carter went first and named Kyle Hamilton, a three-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro for the Baltimore Ravens, who was selected by the franchise with the 14th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame.
“I would say Kyle Hamilton,” Carter said. “Just because I’ve got the length of him, I’m long like him. He can go attack the ball. He’s got versatility. He can play anywhere on the field. He’s a ballhawk.”
As for Myrick’s personal player comp, he named Houston Texans safety Calen Bullock, a 2025 Pro Bowler who also made the 2024 PFWA All-Rookie Team after being taken by the Texans in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft (No. 78 overall pick) out of Southern Cal.
“I’ll say a new guy, actually. His name is Calen Bullock,” Myrick said. “He’s second year in the league. Kind of same body type, same frame, same thought of the game. He’s really an alley-to-alley player, pulls the trigger, but can play that post sideline to sideline. So, just really studying him and try to model my game as much as I can out of him going into the season.”
What does Turner – the former Clemson standout safety who is entering his first season as the team’s safeties coach in 2026 — think of those player comps?
“Pretty accurate. I like that, actually. I like that,” Turner said. “We’ll see, Jerome, Kyle Hamilton. That’s a good one right there. That’s a good one. Big expectations.”
Myrick (87.3) is the highest-graded transfer safety in all of college football, per Pro Football Focus, which also ranks Carter (76.3) as the eighth highest-graded transfer safety.
Myrick played his first college season at Marshall in 2024 and then his second at Southern Miss in 2025. He arrived at Clemson credited with 95 tackles (4.5 for loss), four pass breakups, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 21 games (12 starts). As a sophomore, he posted 92 tackles — third-most on Southern Miss’ squad — with 4.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 13 games (12 starts). According to PFF, Myrick allowed only one touchdown in 384 coverage snaps last season, with a 53.7 passer rating allowed and a coverage grade of 86.2.
Meanwhile, Carter played 25 games and made 12 starts in his first two college campaigns at Old Dominion from 2024-25, tallying 98 tackles (2.5 for loss), six interceptions and three pass breakups over those two seasons. He earned second-team All-Sun Belt honors as a sophomore last season when he started 12 of 13 games and collected 75 tackles (2.5 for loss), a school-record six interceptions and two pass breakups. His six interceptions tied Clemson’s Ricardo Jones (who is now headed to play for Vanderbilt) and others for second-most in the FBS.
