CLEMSON — Clemson wrapped up its fourth day of spring practice on Monday, and defensive coordinator Tom Allen provided an update on star linebacker Sammy Brown.
Allen says Brown is still missing time, as he deals with a wrist injury.
“Right now, Sammy has been out a little bit, but he will be back here soon,” Allen said. “But it has been good that other guys have had a chance to play.”
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney reported last week that Brown was going to miss some time because of his wrist.
“Sammy Brown had to have a little surgery on his wrist. He’s doing great,” Swinney said. “He’ll be limited, but he’ll be rocking and rolling more and more each day.”
With Brown out, other guys have had opportunities to get in and practice with the ones. Jeremiah Alexander said this past Saturday he has played primarily in the middle in practices to that point, but he was told he was going to have to learn all three linebacker positions this spring.
Allen said Alexander, Kobe McCloud and others have all stepped up so far through four spring practices.
“Obviously, Sammy is a special, special player, but we have to have several other guys to step up,” Clemson’s defensive coordinator said. “I can see us being a deep group of guys, with a lot more guys ready to play than we had a year ago, so that excites me.”
Brown led the Tigers in tackles last year with 107, including 13.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. He earned first-team All-ACC honors, and was a third-team All-American as well. In 2024, he was named the ACC’s Rookie of the Year.
