More Bad News for South Carolina

South Carolina’s offensive line has taken another major hit.

Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer announced Tuesday that offensive lineman Josiah Thompson has sustained an injury that will not only cause him to miss the spring, but will most likely keep him out for the entire 2026 season as well.

Thompson is the second South Carolina OL to be injured. One of the Gamecocks’ biggest transfers, Jacarrius Peak, is also out for an extended period after recently suffering a knee injury.

A rising junior, Thompson has started at left tackle for South Carolina each of the last two seasons. The 6-foot-7, 305-pounder was a freshman All-American in 2024 and earned freshman All-SEC honors from the league’s 16 coaches. He was inserted as the starter at left tackle from game one in 2024 and then started all 12 games at the left tackle position in 2025.

Thompson, a product of Dillon (S.C.) High School, was rated by On3 as a five-star prospect and was ranked as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country for the 2024 recruiting class. Thompson entered the NCAA transfer portal this offseason before withdrawing from the portal and coming back to South Carolina.
