CLEMSON — Jarren Purify and Jacob Jarrell each had home runs, while Nate Savoie had a perfect day at the plate and drove in three runs, as No. 10 Clemson run-ruled La Salle for a second straight day, 16-4.
The win was the Tigers’ six straight overall and their third against La Salle in the four-game series. They swept Saturday’s doubleheader, including a 6-4 victory in the first game on Saturday.
Clemson (14-1) led from the outset in the second game, getting three runs in the first, two in the second, three in the third and eight in the fourth inning.
The Explores (8-5) got one run in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth inning.
The Tigers finished the game with 12 hits in earning the victory. Purify’s homer to right in the third inning was of the two-run variety, while Jarrell’s bomb in the fourth was a solo shot that got the Tigers rolling in the fourth inning.
Clemson also got a two-run double from Savoie (2-2) in the first inning that started the scoring. Tyler Lichtenberger also had a two-run double in the fourth inning for the Tigers.
In all, Clemson had 10 different players record at least one hit.
On the mound, Dane Moehler got his first start after missing all of last season with an elbow injury. He threw 18 pitches in his only inning of work, including 13 for strikes. He had two strikeouts in the four batters he faced.
Clemson pitching held La Salle to five hits.
