DB Scratched From Elite Retreat

Turns out, one guest that was scheduled for the Elite Retreat on Saturday will not attend.

Three-star safety Keland Shelton Jr. (Chambers, NC) will not make it to Clemson this weekend. Shelton scheduled the visit back in January. It would have been his first trip to campus.

Shelton told The Clemson Insider that he was also planning to visit on March 28, the day of the spring game. No word yet on whether that visit is still on. He will visit Missouri on March 13-14.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound recruit has more than a dozen offers, including Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, NC State, Tennessee and SMU.

Shelton originally started communicating with safeties coach Nolan Turner and other members of the staff by phone early this year.

“So Coach Turner, I called him and we were talking about Clemson,” Shelton told TCI back in January. “We didn’t get into much detail about the program, but he let me know he liked my versatility, that he doesn’t see me primarily as a safety, but as a ballhawk athlete. Someone who needs to be around the ball.”
