CHARLESTON, S.C. — Tyler Lichtenberger had a career night at the plate, helping No. 19 Clemson knock off The Citadel 9-3 on Wednesday night at Riley Park in Charleston.
Lichtenberger went 3-for-5 at the plate with a career high five RBI for the Tigers (18-4), all of which came with two outs. The three hits also tied a career high set while he was at App State last season. Jarren Purify and Bryce Clavon both had multi-hit games, while Purify and Nate Savoie each had an RBI.
Eston Simpson struck out four across two-plus innings of work, while allowing two runs (one earned) in picking up the win (4-1). Arison Veasey and Brendon Bennett each pitched two innings of relief, while Landon Fowler and Joe Allen pitched the eighth and ninth, respectively.
Jarrell’s ninth home run of the season, a 404-foot solo shot to lead off the fourth, broke a scoreless tie. Later in the same inning, Tyler Lichtenberger’s two-out RBI single gave and Nate Savoie’s walk with the bases loaded gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
The Bulldogs (8-11) would answer with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, with Garrett Fulmer’s two-out RBI single making it 3-2.
Lichtenberger added a two-run triple in the fifth, this one also coming with two outs. Jarren Purify followed that with an RBI single, putting Clemson up 6-2.
Lichtenberger’s bases-loaded single with two outs in the sixth made it 9-2.
The Bulldogs got an RBI hit from Carson Hodges to pull to within 9-3.
Moehler Progressing
Dane Moehler made his second career start as he works back from an elbow injury that cause him to miss the entire 2025 campaign. The right-hander threw 19 pitches in his one inning of work, allowing one hit and striking out two.
