Death Valley Among ‘Scariest’ Environments

Clemson’s Death Valley will be an especially frightening atmosphere for one particular ACC foe during the upcoming season, according to this national outlet.

CBS Sports predicted the top 10 home-field advantages this fall, and Clemson’s Memorial Stadium was named among them.

“Looking over college football’s 2026 schedules, there are 10 games in which home crowds should be fired up to impact the game in a calculated frenzy,” CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford wrote. “Kickoff time certainly helps, and many of those aren’t available just yet, but the opponent provides much of the punch and intrigue for those in attendance.”

On Oct. 3, Memorial Stadium will host the clash between Clemson and last season’s national runner-up, Miami.

For that game specifically, CBS Sports projected Memorial Stadium to be the No. 8 “scariest” environment in college football this year.

“At its height, this was one of the toughest places to play in college football,” Crawford wrote. “Four years removed from a home winning streak that ended a nation-leading 40 games, the Tigers have regressed a bit in front of their orange and purple faithful under Dabo Swinney. However, if there’s any shot at getting to the ACC Championship Game or even the CFP in 2026, this one against the Hurricanes will be a must in South Carolina’s version of Death Valley. Miami will be unblemished when this one’s played in Week 5, so the underdog role for the Tigers could spice things up a bit.”

Clemson is a seven-time College Football Playoff participant and two-time CFP champion, while Miami is coming off an appearance in last season’s CFP national championship game, where it fell to Indiana, 27-21.

The all-time series between Clemson and Miami is tied at 7-7, but the Tigers own a 6-3 advantage in the series since Miami joined the ACC prior to the 2004 season. The Hurricanes won the most recent meeting — a 28-20, double-overtime victory at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., on Oct. 21, 2023.

CBS Sports also recently circled the matchup against Clemson as the most pivotal game for Miami in 2026, while ESPN pegged the matchup against the Hurricanes as the season-defining game for the Tigers.
