Arkansas RB Anxious for Return Trip to Clemson

If Clemson were to expand the running back board again, Carter Wallace might be a name to know.

The three-star back (Valley View, AR), who currently holds more than a dozen offers, visited Clemson back in January. While he got to spend some time with offensive coordinator Chad Morris and running backs coach C.J. Spiller, he did not have an opportunity to meet head coach Dabo Swinney.

Wallace has now set that next visit and will be on hand Saturday for the spring game.

“It went really well in my opinion,” Wallace told The Clemson Insider. “I got to spend a lot of time with Coach Spiller. We even had dinner together. Coach Swinney was out of town that day, so I did not get to meet him. So, they want me to get back there so I can meet him.”

On top of eating dinner with Spiller on that initial visit, Wallace also had lunch with Morris. With the running back hailing from Arkansas and Morris having served as the Razorbacks’ coach in the past, the two had something in common to kick off the conversation. However, the two eventually got to the football part, with the new offensive coordinator telling the young running back he wants to make the run a focal point again now that he’s back.

“We actually ate lunch with him,” Wallace added. “He used to coach at Arkansas, and he brought that up as a talking point. Living in Arkansas. He did say he wanted to bring back the emphasis on the run. He wanted to make that stronger.”

This next visit will give Wallace a deeper look at the program, including how Spiller coaches his players.

“When I went last time, I did not get to see the team practice or play at all,” Wallace said. “I am really excited to see how Coach Spiller is coaching style-wise and to see the team in action.”

Wallace started hearing from Clemson earlier this year. Since then, Spiller has remained in consistent contact, and the relationship between the two has really started to blossom.

“I talk to him about once a week,” Wallace added. “Before I went the first time, I hopped on a call with him for about an hour, just getting to know him. Since then, he has kept in touch. Seeing how my week is going each week and asking about me.”

As a junior, Wallace earned all-state honors, rushing for more than 1,500 yards with 20 touchdowns, while averaging eight yards per carry.

On top of getting to Clemson, Syracuse also got a visit in January. Purdue got a visit earlier this month and he then made spring stops at Missouri, Duke and Wake Forest last week. All four of those teams have already offered, as have Kentucky and Minnesota. The Boilermakers are scheduled to get an official visit in June.

At some point, the 5-foot-11, 204-pound back is hoping to add an offer from the Tigers. Having said that, Wallace knows how slow the recruiting process is at Clemson, and he’s more than willing to remain patient.

“I think out of all the Power-4 teams, they have offered the fewest amount of running backs,” Wallace said. “If they did offer me, and with how committable that offer is, just because of the rigorous process, that would just mean the world to me. That is a place that I could go.”

And if that offer does come, it’s one Wallace would strongly consider.

“They’d be at the top for sure,” Wallace said. “They would be way up there.”
