CLEMSON — Clemson men’s basketball assistant Jeff Reynolds officially announced on Friday he is stepping away from basketball.
Reynolds served five years on head coach Brad Brownell’s staff. The Clemson Insider reported Reynolds was leaving the Clemson program earlier on Friday.
“I want to thank Jeff and his wife Janet for their unwavering loyalty and dedication to our program over the last five years,” said Brownell in a press release from the school. “They are super people and I can’t thank them enough for their time, loyalty and positivity. Jeff was an extremely valuable asset to the program, both on and off the court. I’ve always respected him from afar and I am extremely grateful that we got to coach together these last five years.
“He has a real professional approach and has great relationships with our players, providing valuable experience in all aspects. I wish Jeff and Janet nothing but the best in the future.”
Hired prior to the 2021-22 season, Reynolds brought four decades of collegiate coaching experience to the Clemson staff. He holds a wealth of experience as an assistant coach, in an administrative role and nine seasons as a collegiate head coach, including five at Air Force and three at Wingate.
“I have decided to step away from basketball currently,” said Reynolds. “This decision was not made easily. Following the loss of my mother this past December, and the conclusion of our season, I have had time to reflect. In good consciousness it is clear I cannot devote the same efforts and time to my coaching responsibilities and the needs of family matters.”
The Tigers enjoyed its most successful four-year run with Reynolds on staff from 2022-26 – winning 98 games, making three NCAA Tournaments and just the school’s second Elite Eight appearance.
“I am incredibly grateful for the past five years,” Reynolds said. “It has been an honor to be a part of the success our basketball program has achieved. I feel fortunate to have worked with Brad Brownell, who is truly an incredible leader, and to have been part of a staff that always does things the right way.”
