Seminoles Take Series from Tigers

CLEMSON — The Clemson Tigers tied things in the bottom of the fifth inning but weren’t able to hang on, as the No. 8 Florida State Seminoles captured the second game of the series, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Clemson fell to 23-12 (6-5 ACC), while Florida State improved to 31-4 (8-0 ACC).

Sophomore Marian Collins and junior Kiley Channell notched both of Clemson’s RBIs, while Channell and Jamison Brockenbrough clocked both of the Tigers’ hits. Brockenbrough rounded out her day with one run scored, while Kylee Johnson scored on a squeeze bunt.

The Tigers got things started in the bottom of the first with a Brockenbrough walk. She advanced to third, and scored on Collins’ ground out.

Florida State answered in the top of the fourth when a fielding error brought Ashtyn Danley and Shelby McKenzie around to give the Seminoles a 2-1 advantage.

The back and forth continued into the bottom of the fifth. Johnson walked to get things started, and the Tigers secured runners on the corners off of a Taylor Pipkins sacrifice and a Brockenbrough single. Channell’s successful bunt scored Johnson and evened the score heading into the sixth.

The Seminoles took back the lead in the top of the sixth on freshman Anna Hinde’s two-run home run, which held for the remainder of the game.

Abby Dunning got the start for the Tigers in the circle, pitching 5.2 and striking out five. With the loss, Dunning fell to 6-6 on the season. Keira Crosby came in in relief for the remainder of the game and notched one strikeout.
