Davidson Issues Bold Prediction

CLEMSON — Gideon Davidson believes the Clemson offense made a lot of progress in its first spring under new coordinator Chad Morris.

While there are always challenges when it comes to learning a new scheme, the second-year running back believes the unit came out of the spring in a really good place.

“As an offense, we have definitely improved. From the first day of spring until now,” Davidson said. “I think our tempo is a lot faster. We all know what we are doing. I think we have increased on an upward trajectory.”

One thing Morris has been adamant about is that he wants to run the football. He made that readily apparent during his introductory press conference, something that was music to Davidson’s ears.

On top of that, Davidson has seen enough already to believe that Morris is going to rely on a stable of backs. Former offensive coordinator Garrett Riley tended to rely more on one feature back.

After netting just 60 carries during his freshman season, that is a change Davidson is embracing with open arms.

“He is going to run the ball a lot, but he is not going to rely on one guy to do it, so that was very encouraging,” Davidson added. “It opened up the passing game. I really enjoy it.”

While Davidson is coming out of the spring as the guy at the top of the depth chart, he’s excited about the possibility of multiple backs helping to carry the load.

The Tigers added Chris Johnson Jr. out of the portal, the only transfer taken on the offensive side of the ball, and he brings elite speed into the room. Jarvis Green was starting to show some promise before an injury derailed his 2025 season and David Eziomume has now been in the program two full seasons.

It’s a room full of backs with different types of skillsets, and it’s a room that Davidson sees having an extremely strong season in the Chad Morris offense.

“Our running back group, it is going to be the best in the country,” Davidson added. “We’ve got a lot of diversity. Got a lot of speed, got a lot of power. We are all good running backs and we are going to be utilized well.”
