Lukus Leaping For NFL Chance

CLEMSON – Cheers exploded from the 50-yard line of Clemson’s Allen Reeves Indoor Practice Facility on March 12 as one player leaped through the air to a record-setting broad jump.

Jeadyn Lukus, a former cornerback for the Tigers, recorded a 11-foot, seven-inch broad jump at Clemson’s Pro Day, smashing numbers set at the NFL Combine two weeks earlier. After an up-and-down collegiate career, his  jump, and total Pro Day performance, made a statement.

“I think it went good,” Lukus said post-Pro Day. “I’ve been training for two months, trying to get the job done and I just feel like I put my abilities on display the best I could.”

Along with the broad jump, Lukus recorded a 1.46-second 10-yard-dash time, and a 6.95-second three-cone drill. Both splits would also have ranked first among all defensive backs at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, to which the veteran did not receive an invite. Additionally, his 4.41 40-yard-dash time would have slotted in at fourth among his position group.

The defensive back’s athleticism was a large reason why he was rated a five-star prospect and the No. 1 player in South Carolina coming out of high school, according to 247Sports. Across three limited seasons due to the Pandemic, Lukus notched 97 tackles in just 23 games for Mauldin High School, deflecting 17 passes and grabbing four interceptions en route to several deep postseason finishes.

While Lukus’ athleticism was never in question in his Clemson career, he still never quite found consistent success as a member of the Tigers’ secondary. The former Top-30 recruit showed early promise, catching an interception in the 2022 ACC Championship win over North Carolina, and notching three pass breakups in 2023. By the start of the 2024 season, he became a regular starter.

However, after early struggles, Lukus lost his starting job by the end of the season, and only made one start in 2025, after dealing with nagging injuries and missing most of fall camp. After playing a combined 721 snaps his sophomore and junior seasons, he only notched 197 in 2025.

Still, despite the adversity, Lukus feels grateful for time at Clemson, struggles and all.

“I wouldn’t change anything, the good or the bad,” he said. “I mean, everyone hopes that everything goes perfect, but I know that I would not be the same person without the ups and the downs. So I would definitely take both in stride and I’m thankful for both.”

Now, with no more eligibility left, Lukus is ready to turn the page to a new chapter and realize his childhood dream of playing professional football.

“I think every high school kid, I mean, the goal, I mean, it obviously doesn’t work out for everybody, but I mean, the goal is to make it to the NFL,” he said. “I don’t think you go into college automatically doubting yourself thinking that you’re not going to make it. So, absolutely, this is the goal.”

After his Pro Day showcase and now three weeks ahead of the NFL Draft, Lukus is currently ranked as the No. 265 prospect by PFF Sports, and listed as a possible day-three selection by several major outlets. While not slotted to go in the first few rounds like fellow Clemson corner Aveion Terrell, Lukus believes he could benefit any professional team that gives him an opportunity.

“I’m someone that’s just going to go in and get the job done,” Lukus said. “I think when you’re in my position, I feel like I have more than enough athletic ability to play on any team anywhere and I feel like I can show that wherever I’m put.”

When asked about his play-style, Lukus’ answer came down to three words.

“Athletic, physical, tough,” he said, standing at the dais in Clemson’s Media Center for the last time in his career.

While it is hard to quantify toughness or physicality through a series of jumps and runs, Lukus’ athleticism was on full display in front of scouts from all 32 NFL teams as he jumped, ran, and caught for a chance to continue playing football at Clemson’s Pro Day.

Lukus will have his chance to hear his name called, and capitalize on any untapped potential he has stored, on April 23-25, when the NFL Draft will be hosted in Pittsburgh, Penn.
