Clemson Softball Run-Rules Panthers

Clemson hit three home runs in the fourth inning, five overall, as the Tigers run-ruled Pittsburgh, 13-2, in five innings Saturday at Vartabedian Field in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Macey Cintron, Sarah Breaux and Taylor Pipkins each hit home runs in the decisive fourth inning, and inning in which the Tigers scored seven runs. Clemson also got a solo home run from Jamison Brockenbrough to start the game and a second inning grand slam from Kylee Johnson to create some separation.

It was a nice response after the defending ACC Champions were shut down after the second inning in Game 1 on Friday, a game in which they led 4-0 before allowing Pitt to come all the way back and win the game, 8-5.

There would be no rally for the Panthers (21-19, 7-10 ACC) on Saturday, the Tigers made sure of it this time.

With Clemson (26-16, 8-9 ACC) already in front 6-2, it scored seven runs on six hits in the fourth inning, including two-run homers from Cintron and Breaux and a solo bomb from Pipkins. The Tigers also got an RBI double from Corri Hicks and an RBI single from Mac Pavese.

The Tigers got a lead-off home run from Brockenbrough to start the game and after Pitt tied the game in the bottom of the first, they responded with a five-run second inning, which included Johnson’s grand slam. It was her second home run of the season.

Clemson scored a fifth run later in the inning when Brockenbrough scored following a Panthers’ throwing error.

Cintron got her first start in the circle, and the sophomore responded nicely for Clemson. She allowed just the two runs on five hits. She struck out three and did not walk a batter in earning her first win.
