As a legacy recruit, Brendan Hall has a unique connection to Clemson.
His father, Les Hall, was an offensive lineman for the Tigers from 1988-92, and over the years, the elder Hall has brought his family back countless times for games. He’s also made sure Brendan, a 2028 offensive lineman out of South Mecklenburg (NC), was able to attend Dabo Swinney’s high school camp every summer since he was a youngster.
“He has been a huge part of me really loving Clemson,” Hall told The Clemson Insider. “He’s been taking me and my family there every summer, we go and see games, just events like that. He has been a key way for me to really enjoy Clemson.”
However, last weekend, Hall made his first real recruiting visit to Clemson. He was one of a handful of 2028 offensive linemen to be brought in for the event on Saturday.
“I have been going for years, but this was my first time truly for recruiting,” Hall said. “Really seeing the facilities, doing a deep dive into everything. I was so excited, it was almost like a dream come true. I have always wanted to be a part of Clemson in some way.”
Hall was blown away by the visit, noting this trip was unlike any other he’s taken to this point.
“The first thing that stood out was pulling up, there were like 15 coaches just ready to greet you,” Hall said. “I was like, ‘Oh my God,’ because I had never seen that before. I am used to walking in the door and there may be a few student assistants, just kind of holding the doors open. There’s so much staff there. They did a phenomenal job of just making you feel welcome. Everyone was super nice.”
While Hall has been around Matt Luke a little in the past, this was his first opportunity to get a real feel for how the Tigers’ offensive line coach handles the recruiting process. Luke insists on being transparent, even if it is something a recruit may not want to hear.
“One thing I love about him is he says he is going to keep things real,” Hall said. “He is not going to lie to your face. He’s going to say, ‘Hey, this is what we are doing.’ He is not going to beat around the bush. That is one thing I love about a coach. Don’t beat around the bush, just tell me.”
Hall’s recruitment is really just getting started. All but one of his offers have come this year. Kentucky represented his first Power-4 offer back in January, with Wake Forest, Liberty, East Carolina and Virginia Tech all following suit,
On top of his visit to Clemson, he’s also been to Virginia Tech this spring. He was actually supposed to be at South Carolina the day he visited Clemson, but he scrapped those plans in favor of being in the Upstate. He does plan on rescheduling. He took a game-day visit to Columbia last season.
Hall also plans to be back at Clemson in June to once again work out at camp. That is the offer he wants, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to earn one.
“That would mean the world to me,” Hall said. “Ever since I was a little boy, my dad has been talking about him playing at Clemson, and that is what I want to do. Follow in my father’s footsteps. I want to go be a Clemson Tiger. Going to the games and spending time with his friends only strengthened my love for Clemson, especially football.”
