Just a couple of days after including Clemson in his final four, members of the coaching staff were in to see priority target Carter Jones.
Offensive coordinator Chad Morris and offensive line coach Matt Luke both made the trek to Virginia and went in-home with the four-star prospect. The two coaches also went out to dinner with Jones and his family. The fact that Morris accompanied Luke on the visit gives you an idea of exactly how much of a priority he’s considered to be.
Jones has long been one of the Tigers’ top recruiting targets in the 2027 class, picking up one of the opening offers last summer. Earlier this week, he released his list of four finalists that included Clemson, Penn State, Georgia and Tennessee.
Jones has already taken official visits to both Penn State and Georgia. He will be at Tennessee on May 21 before finishing his slate by attending the big official visit weekend, May 29-31. He will then announce a commitment on June 4.
Jones has visited Clemson several times already. He worked out at camp last year, was on hand for the season-opener against LSU and then attended the Elite Retreat in March.
“They are super-high, they are at the top of my list,” Jones told TCI after the March visit. “One of my favorite schools for sure. It is the culture, and it is Coach Luke’s development and ability to get players into the NFL. That is really big for me. The development piece mixed in with the culture. Because I will develop not only as a football player but also a man.”
Clemson has long been considered a favorite, but Penn State has made a big push in recent weeks.
247 ranks the 6-foot-6, 295-pounder as the 16th best interior lineman in the class.
