With Andrew Beard very likely heading elsewhere, all eyes turn towards Clemson’s other running back target, Gary Walker.
The four-star talent, out of Creekside (GA), made his first visit to campus for the Elite Retreat in early March, picking up an offer in the process. Walker still remains just the third running back in the 2027 class to hold an offer from the Tigers.
Walker returned to Clemson for a second spring visit later in March and is scheduled to be back for the big official visit weekend, May 29-31. And if, as expected, Beard commits to another school, as things stand right now, Walker would be the only running back scheduled to attend.
“Clemson is high for me,” the blue-chip prospect recently told TCI.
Stanford, Penn State, Florida State and Virginia Tech are the other schools slated to get official visits, with the Nittany Lions likely the Tigers’ biggest competition.
Walker rushed for 1,669 yards with 20 touchdowns as a junior, helping lead his team to a 4A state title. 247 Sports and Rivals both rank the 6-foot, 200-pound prospect as one of the eight best backs in the 2027 class.
Running backs coach C.J. Spiller has already done an in-home visit with Walker since the contact period began last month. Walker is expecting Spiller at his high school one day this week, possibly Thursday, to take in a spring practice.
Land Walker, and that would ease the sting of missing on Beard, and things certainly seem to be trending in a positive direction. However, it’s not over until it’s over.
