Members of the Clemson coaching staff are out in full force.
Newly offered CB Aidyn Wiggins received a visit from Director of Player Evaluation & Acquisition Kevin Kelly. The three-star in-state talent, out of Byrnes, just picked up an offer from the Tigers early this week.
Wiggins has seen his recruitment really take off of late and now has close to 30 offers in total. Auburn, Wisconsin, Rutgers and LSU have all offered this month after he ran a 4.45 40-yard dash at the UA Next camp stop in Charlotte two weeks ago. Syracuse, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, North Carolina and NC State were some of the other schools to offer during the spring.
The 6-foot-1 defensive back currently has officials scheduled with Rutgers, Syracuse, Cincinnati and Virginia Tech. He is slated to be at Rutgers when Clemson hosts its big official visit weekend, May 29-31 and Syracuse June 12-14, when the Tigers will host a second official visit gathering. I fully expect that schedule to get tweaked, with Clemson getting added at some point.
Offensive line coach Matt Luke was at the school of four-star OL Carter Jones (Poquoson, VA). Luke, along with offensive coordinator Chad Morris, did an in-home with Jones late last month.
Jones has already taken official visits to both Penn State and Georgia. He will be at Tennessee this weekend before finishing his slate by attending the big official visit weekend, May 29-31. He will then announce a commitment on June 4.
Jones has visited Clemson several times already. He worked out at camp last year, was on hand for the season-opener against LSU, then attended the Elite Retreat in March.
“They are super-high, they are at the top of my list,” Jones told TCI after the March visit. “One of my favorite schools for sure. It is the culture, and it is Coach Luke’s development and ability to get players into the NFL. That is really big for me. The development piece mixed in with the culture. Because I will develop not only as a football player but also a man.”
Clemson has long been considered a favorite, but Penn State has made a serious push in recent weeks.
Wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham did an in-home with four-star wideout Deshawn Hall (Prattville, AL), even after the 6-foot-5 prospect recently scratched Clemson from his official visit. Hall was slated to be at the big weekend, May 29-31, but he will now visit Auburn that weekend. Penn State, Alabama and Tennessee are also expected to get officials.
Hall picked up his offer after an unofficial visit in late March.
“This ain’t one of those offers that coaches just hand out,” Hall told TCI recently. “You really got to be a top-notch player. You really got to work for this one.”
Former commit Seth Williams has had a really big week, adding offers from Georgia, Michigan and Louisville on Wednesday. The three-star safety made waves in the spring after committing to the Tigers while on an unofficial visit. Williams quickly backed off that verbal pledge, telling TCI he made the decision to quickly.
Despite the decommitment, Williams is still locked in to be at the big official visit weekend, May 29-31. Florida and Florida State are also set to get officials. Williams also told TCI that Vanderbilt could get one. Whether these new developments result in a change to his schedule has yet to be decided.
