Clemson Target Breaks Down Finalists, Reveals Commitment Date

Not only has Clemson edge target Kalib Spivey whittled his list down to four, he’s also set a commitment date.

The three-star talent inlcuded Clemson, Georgia Tech, Duke and Maryland in hislist of finalists, with all four schools set to get official visits. Spivey then plans to reveal his college destination on June 25.

Spivey picked up his offer from the Tigers while visiting for the Elite Retreat, and while he plans on being back for an official visit June 12-14.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how they want to use me in the defense,” Spivey told The Clemson Insider. “How they will develop me to be like the great defensive linemen they have produced.”

Spivey broke down what he likes about each of his finalists. With Clemson, it’s the culture inside the program and the track record for putting players into the NFL.

“I love the way Dabo Swinney runs the program and how he doesn’t really go into the portal,” he said. “He wants to develop guys into NFL players and great men.”

With Duke, the relationship with head coach Manny Diaz is part of what stands out. He will be at Duke May 29 for an official.

“I really love the defensive scheme and how it allows the defensive ends to produce,” Spivey said. “I love the relationship I have with Coach Diaz and Coach Harris. They also feel like I can come in and make an impact as a freshman so that’s another thing I like. They also don’t go into the portal at all.”

Part of the appeal with Georgia Tech is the opportunity for early playing time. The Yellow Jackets get an official on June 5.

“I love the relationship I have with Coach Pope and I love the plan they have for me in their defense,” Spivey said. “They feel like I can come in and make an impact as a freshman and I really like that.”

Spivey also believes he’s a good fit at Maryland. His official there is June 19.

“I have a good relationship with the coaches and I love the scheme they run,” he said. “I really feel like I can fit in that system.”

After he wraps up the final visits, Spivey said he plans to reveal his college destination on June 25.

“The biggest thing I’m looking for is a school that will develop me into being the best player,” Spivey said. “I don’t really care much about NIL because I know that will come with being a good player. I just want to be developed.”
