Kharim Hughley proved he was one of the top quarterbacks in his recruiting class over the weekend.
The four-star Clemson commit was one of 20 high school quarterbacks to earn an invite to the Elite 11 finals held in Los Angeles, and he more than held his own.
Rivals placed Hughley No. 7 for his weekend performance after he completed 16-of-24 during the 7v7 portion of the event on Sunday, with five touchdown passes and no sacks taken.
“Kharim Hughley was a Top Performer for Rivals on all three days of the Elite 11 Finals,” Charles Power of Rivals wrote. “The Clemson commit consistently impressed with his overall arm talent and ability to drive the football downfield. Hughley is a compactly built 5-foot-11, 205 pounds, and the football jumps out of his hand. He capped off the weekend with a nice showing in 7-on-7, going 16 for 24 for five touchdowns. Hughley flashed the arm strength, hitting a deep post for a touchdown from 40 yards out. We saw some room to continue improving his footwork, but the ability to threaten tight windows with velocity should translate to the next level.”
Hughley committed to Clemson last July, about a week after picking up his offer. While most of the current commits were on campus this weekend for official visits, he will take his during the second, smaller gathering being held June 12-14.
As a junior, the quarterback helped guide his Gainesville (GA) High School team to an appearance in the 5A state title game. While they fell short of winning it all, Hughley was a big part of the success that led to a 12-win season, throwing for 2,456 yards with 33 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed for 379 yards with eight more scores via his legs.
Rivals ranks Hughley No. 137 overall and No. 12 among all quarterbacks in the class. ESPN slots him No. 124 overall and No. 5 among dual-threat quarterbacks.
