Swinney Camp Notebook: Day 1 Morning Session

CLEMSON — Dabo Swinney’s annual high school camp kicked off on Tuesday morning. More than 400 prospects representing 31 states and Canada will work out on campus today alone.

One of the biggest visitors on Tuesday is four-star quarterback Kingston Preyear (Benjamin Russell, AL). Standing 6-foot-3, Russell is considered one of the five best signal callers in the 2028 recruiting class. Watching him work out, it is easy to see why he is so highly regarded.

Preyear throws a nice ball with a smooth release. He’s also got a big arm and can make all of the throws. Alabama, Notre Dame, Florida and Vanderbilt are some of the schools with early traction. Preyear might very well end up being one of the 2028 first signal callers to pick up an offer from the Tigers.

2028 four-star wideout Jordan Gorham was one of the best-looking wide receivers to work out this morning. Gorham is formerly of Timberland High School in the Lowcountry, but he will play at IMG this coming season.

Gorham is every bit of the 6-foot-4 he is listed at, and he can go up and high-point the ball. He is a very smooth runner. He was also receiving a lot of individual attention from Swinney during one drill.

Gorham has visited multiple times already, including back in April for the Spring Elite Day. He already has close to a dozen offers, including South Carolina, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Nebraska and North Carolina. He could be adding one from Clemson in the near future.

2028 four-star Jaden Jones (Avonworth, PA) was another wideout who stood out. At 6-foot-2, Jones is put together physically, and he gets in and out of his breaks quickly. Florida State, Penn State, South Carolina, Nebraska and Kentucky are just a few of his more than 20 offers.

2027 in-state wideouts Nick Gordon and Darius Carter both worked out this morning. Both have been frequent guests a camp over the years.

Current 2027 four-star wide receiver commit Trey Wimbley is working the camp with current players, despite not yet being signed.

One of the top defensive backs in the next recruiting class is back on campus today and working out for the staff. Four-star cornerback Dominic Williams (Jacksonville, NC), who is ranked as one of the Top 50 players in the class and the seventh-best corner, also visited back during the spring.

Williams was getting a lot of attention from new nickels coach Corico Wright. Williams is extremely athletic with fluid hips. He is another candidate for one of Clemson’s opening offers. Auburn, Florida, Kentucky and Missouri are a few of his early offers.

2029 wideout Jacoby Beard (Prince Avenue, GA) is back on campus today. He is the younger brother of former running back target Andrew Beard, who committed to Florida in early May.

2029 OL Reed Scruggs (Leesville, VA) was also on hand. He is the younger brother of freshman OL Carter Scruggs.

One final interesting nugget. There was one quarterback who was working out by the name of Joivan Jiminez. He is only in the sixth grade. Yes, you read that right. That makes him a member of the 2032 class. He is on the middle school team at First Baptist Academy down in Florida. He was told to come work out with the older kids since he already looks like one and throws like one. He is close with Chance Barclay, a current freshman offensive lineman.
