Swinney Camp Notebook: Day 3 Morning Session

CLEMSON —After taking yesterday off, Dabo Swinney’s high school camp kicked back into full gear on Friday morning. There will be one more practice this afternoon before an evening session for the overnighters that will feature some games for the campers.

– Chad Morris appears to be more hands-on with the campers than Garrett Riley was over the past few summers. A lot of these quarterbacks are getting individual attention from him, regardless of stature.

– Yet another Texas quarterback was on campus throwing for the coaches this morning. 2028 four-star Tristin Gaines (Waller, TX) had a really good morning session. He is smooth as silk. Rivals ranks him as one of the Top 10 quarterbacks in the 2028 class. Michigan, Texas Tech, Tennessee, SMU, Vanderbilt, TCU and Kentucky are some of the schools to have already offered. Gaines is also a standout baseball player. Multiple staffers watched on intently as he worked out today.

– 2028 four-star QB Luke Rubley (Regis Jesuit) made the trip in from Colorado. The 6-foot-3 signal caller throws a ball with plenty of zip on it. Indiana, Colorado, Boston College, Florida State and Oregon are just a handful of his close to 20 offers. It is fairly easy to see why he’s garnered so much early interest.

– Four-star S Giovanni Tuggle (Winder-Barrow, GA) was one of the more high-profile defensive backs to work out. He is ranked as one of the Top 60 players in the class regardless of position, and it is easy to see why. His athleticism is off the charts.

– 2028 DE Quinn Jacobs (Blessed Trinity, GA) was on hand this morning. The younger brother of current offensive lineman Brayden Jacobs has been a frequent visitor in the past, so it was no surprise to see him working out. Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina and Wake Forest are some of his current offers.

2028 DL Cavin Bates also worked out this morning. He is the son of former DT coach Todd Bates, who is currently on Brent Venables’ staff at Oklahoma. Georgia Tech and NC State are two of his early Power-4 offers.

– One guy who really stood out was defensive end Joshua Tonga (Buford, GA). He is 6-foot-5 already and is just entering his freshman year of high school. His wingspan looks insane for a kid that age.

2029 CB Scott Miller III (Hoover, AL) was on hand. He visited back in the spring and was invited to camp by members of the staff.

– Two identical twins hailing from Fountain Inn worked out this morning. The interesting thing is that there looks to be a 25-30 pound difference between the two. One is 2029 CB Jacob Brown and the other is 2029 DL Joshua Brown.
