Clemson Not Short on Playmakers

CLEMSON — Earlier today I was watching a video of Antonio Brown’s Pittsburgh Steelers highlights, and as he scored touchdown after touchdown in the video, it got me to thinking – Clemson has some pretty darn good playmakers this year.

Think about it. T.J. Moore, Bryant Wesco, Christian Bentancur, Chris Johnson, Jr., and Tyler Brown to name a few a few.

Hello Gideon Davidson.

There are a couple of freshmen they are high on as well. In other words, the Tigers are not short on playmakers.

Then I thought about this – the guy who knew how to get the football to his playmakers as well as any play-caller Clemson has had—Cha Morris—is back calling plays for Dabo Swinney.

This is pretty exciting stuff for the Tigers.

Of Wesco’s 11 career touchdown receptions, six are from 34-plus yards, including a 73-yard catch-and-run against Georgia Tech last year, and a 76-yard bomb against App State in 2024. He also had a 51-yard TD catch against App State, and a 43-yard TD reception in the ACC Championship Game against SMU.

Moore has nine career TDs, and of his nine, five have come from 32 yards or more, including a 75-yard TD catch against North Carolina and Duke last year. He also had a 62-yard TD reception against SMU.

Even as a tight end, Bentancur has a TD reception of 43 yards on his bingo card, while Tyler Brown has a 30-yard TD on his resume, and also has a 45-yard reception as his career long. Johnson has TDs of 87, 42 and 33 yards on his card.

So, playmakers are everywhere for Clemson this coming season. But does that mean Morris can get them the ball.

He will have to do it with either a rookie quarterback in Tait Reynolds or with an inexperienced quarterback in Christopher Vizzina, who has one start in his first three years in Tigertown.

There is also the question of the offensive line.

But like I have written before, a quarterback is only as good as his offensive line. The good news is, Morris knows how to mask the issues on the offensive line, he has done it before at Clemson.

So, can Vizzina or Reynolds get the football to their playmakers like Tajh Boyd did back in the day with Sammy Watkins, Nuk Hopkins and Dwayne Allen?

I think they can, and if so, it sure is going to be fun to watch them tear up the ACC.
