Clemson Still Has Needs In 2027 Class

After adding 15 commitments over the past three weeks, Clemson’s 2027 recruiting class is getting closer to being done.

The Tigers have filled all of the spots on the offensive side of the ball, securing verbal pledges from one quarterback, one running back, three receivers, two tight ends and four offensive linemen.

On the defensive side, there is still a little more work to be done at certain spots. Clemson has collected commitments from three defensive ends, leading to official visits by two others scheduled to happen this weekend, being canceled. However, we could still see additions at every other spot on that side of the ball.

Three-star Jaden Wuerth is currently on the only defensive tackle on board, having announced a commitment back in the spring. The staff is looking to add one more there, with four-star talents Seth Tillman and Segun Alexander both scheduled for official visits this weekend.

Georgia is heavily involved with Tillman. The in-state prospect took an official to Athens on the weekend of May 29. South Carolina is also in pursuit, with Tillman taking an official to Columbia in early May. Michigan also got an official visit. This one appears to be coming down to a head-to-head battle with the Dawgs.

Clemson just beat Georgia out for four-star OL JJ Brown and will need to do it again. This weekend’s visit will be crucial for how this one plays out. As of now, Tillman is scheduled to announce on July 11.

Alexander’s recruitment is a little tougher to read. He recently reclassified up to the 2027 class. He’s already taken officials to Cal and Texas A&M. After his trip to Clemson this weekend, he still has stops set with Vanderbilt and Notre Dame. Some think the Aggies are in the lead at this point, but this is one that could drag out a little longer, although he has talked about making a decision before the start of his season.

Clemson has two linebackers on board in the class. Three-star Max Brown committed last summer, with four-star Bryce Kish joining the fold during the Elite Retreat. A third will be taken. Four-star talents Sean Fox and Roman Igwegbuike are the two targets who attended the big official visit weekend.

Fox is fresh off an official visit to Kentucky, and the Wildcats came out of that weekend with a ton of momentum. It’s worth noting that Kentucky is being pretty aggressive on the NIL front with this recruiting class. Notre Dame, Louisville and Georgia also got official visits.

Igwebuike is another one that’s hard to get a solid read on. Although Clemson’s chances seem to be getting slimmer with each passing day. Notre Dame might be the school to watch here. Tennessee, who gets an official visit on June 19, probably shouldn’t be discounted either. Missouri and Indiana also received officials.

With Fox and Igwebuike both far from guarantees, Clemson expanded the board over the weekend, with three-star RJ Hudson picking up an offer. Hudson worked out at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp last week. He also visited in the spring.

After picking up the offer, Hudson quickly set an official visit with the Tigers for this weekend, scratching his plans to visit Syracuse. Maryland has already gotten an official visit. He’s set to announce on June 19.

The Tigers still need another cornerback in this class, too. Three-star legacy Christian Chancellor committed last summer, with three-star Bryant Robinson announcing last week.

Four-star Jayden Aparicio-Bailey is the lone target at the moment. Aparicio-Bailey was on hand for the big official visit weekend and the Elite Retreat in March. This is another battle that might be coming down to Clemson and Georgia. Auburn and South Carolina are the other two teams involved. Landing Aparicio-Bailey would be huge for this class.

The Tigers already have two safeties committed in four-star Jarrell Chandler and three-star Harrison Luke. However, there is a chance still that one more could be added.

Three-star Seth Williams is the lone target at this time. He committed to Clemson back in the spring before quickly backing off that pledge after deciding he had made the decision too quickly. Williams was back on campus for the big official visit weekend. Georgia and Florida have also gotten officials. Ohio State gets one on the weekend of June 19.

Williams’ recruitment has really exploded since his decommitment. Georgia jumping in recently with an offer really changed things. Williams goes to high school in the Atlanta area, so there is some sentimental pull. Whether or not the Tigers add a third safety could come down to this decision.

247 currently ranks the 22-member class No. 6 in the country.
