Former Clemson Skipper Heading Home

A former Clemson skipper is heading home.

Monte Lee, who served as Clemson’s head baseball coach from 2016-22, is heading back to the College of Charleston, where he will serve as assistant head coach on Chad Holbrook’s staff. Lee spent his playing days with the Cougars, and served as the head coach of the program from 2009-15, which was his first head coaching gig.

In his seven seasons as head coach at Clemson, Lee had a 242-136 record, as the 242 wins were the 24th most in the nation during that time period. He led the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament each of his first four seasons, one of only 13 schools that were selected to the NCAA Tourney each of those four seasons. Lee was also 110-93 against ACC teams and 59-34 in one-run games.

Lee coached nine All-Americans in his seven seasons at Clemson, including at least one All-American in six of his seven seasons, as well as three-time All-American Seth Beer, who won National Player-of-the-Year honors in 2016.

Lee would fail to make the NCAA Tournament in each of his final two seasons, and he was ultimately dismissed following the 2022 campaign.

Lee has spent the past four seasons on the staff at South Carolina, serving as the Associate Head Coach and Hitting Coach before being named interim head coach following the dismissal of Paul Maineri early in the 2026 season.
