Clemson is set to host more official visits this weekend.
While this event won’t be anything like the big official visit weekend held two weeks ago, it sill carries plenty of weight, seeing as a handful of priority targets are scheduled to be on hand.
Arguably, the biggest visitor is four-star in-state defensive tackle Seth Tillam (South Pointe). The 6-foot-4, 270-pounder picked up one of the opening offers last summer and was last on campus for the Elite Retreat back in March.
“Clemson was awesome,” Tillman told TCI after that visit. “I learned a lot about expectations from the coaches. I learned Coach Eason’s coaching style and how players respond to his directions. I learned from Coach Dabo why Clemson is special and remains a great university. I also learned how Coach Dabo’s name originated.”
Three-star in-state prospect Jaden Wuerth is the only interior defensive lineman currently committed in the 2027 class, so Tillman would fill one of the biggest remaining needs.
Georgia is also heavily involved with Tillman. The in-state prospect took an official to Athens on the weekend of May 29. South Carolina is also in pursuit, with Tillman taking an official to Columbia in early May. Michigan also got an official visit, and seems to have gained some traction.
However, it’s the Dawgs that have been viewed as the biggest competition. Clemson has already beaten out Georgia head-to-head for four-star offensive lineman JJ Brown. Tillman is scheduled to announce on July 11.
Four-star defensive tackle Segun Alexander is also set to attend. Alexander recently reclassified up to the 2027 class. He’s already taken officials to Cal and Texas A&M. After his trip to Clemson this weekend, he still has stops set with Vanderbilt and Notre Dame. The Aggies might be the team to beat at this point.
Three-star linebacker RJ Hudson tells TCI he still plans to take an official this weekend. Hudson just announced an offer last weekend after working out at camp last week.
With four-star linebacker Sean Fox trending heavily towards Clemson, there was some speculation that Hudson’s visit could be off. However, that is not the case, and it appears that both players would be takes.
Hudson scrapped plans to be at Syracuse this weekend so he could make it to Clemson. Maryland has already gotten an official. He is scheduled to announce on Friday.
Three-star linebacker Tyson Smith was at one time on the visitor’s list for this weekend, but that visit has been scratched.
With the Tigers now being full at defensive end, there have been a couple of other cancellations, as well. Four-star Kalib Spivey and three-star Andrew Rogers were both originally scheduled to attend, but neither will be on hand now. Clemson currently holds commitments from four-star Desmond Malpress, four-star Santana Harvey and three-star JiQuan Rogers.
The Tigers’ 2027 class currently features 22 verbal pledges, with the class ranking No. 7 nationally at 247.
