Seth Williams, the final remaining safety target for the Tigers, is down to two schools. On July 3, the four-star talent, out of Lakeside High School near Atlanta, will choose between Clemson and Georgia.
Williams committed to the Tigers back in late March while on an unofficial visit. After he returned home, he quickly realized he’d jumped the gun and went public with a decommitment less than two weeks later.
However, despite Williams backing off his verbal pledge, Clemson has continued to pursue the 6-foot-2, 185-pound defensive back. He was on hand for the big official visit weekend, May 29-31, and getting to see Dabo Swinney in his element was one of the biggest things that resonated.
“Everybody knows, or if you are a Clemson fan, or if you have been following college football for a while, you know Coach Swinney is always going to keep it real. He is as real as it gets,” Williams told The Clemson Insider. “Just being around him, and seeing him not change for a video. He is one of those guys you could always keep the camera on. Because you get around him and see he is just like that in person. Being that as a head coach is nice.”
During his time on campus, Swinney brought all of the recruits on hand over to his house, something he generally does for the big official visit weekend every summer. While at Swinney’s house, the recruits not only watched the NBA Playoffs but also played some basketball in Swinney’s home gym.
“You go to his house, and I don’t know too many OV’s where head coaches bring recruits to their home,” Williams added. “His actual house. This isn’t an Airbnb. His kids are on the pictures, the basketball court, his family is in the living room on the wall, he’s got former players watching the Spurs vs the Thunder at the time…. everything just felt like home.”
Williams got a major bump in the latest update to the 247Sports recruiting rankings, moving up 100 spots to No. 25 among all safeties in the 2027 class. He also received his fourth star.
With Clemson already having two safeties on board in the current class, Williams is the lone remaining target at the position, and landing him means beating out the home-state Dawgs, something that won’t be easy. However, Williams has called Clemson his “dream school’ on multiple occasions, and it appears the Tigers are positioned about as well as they can be leading up to his decision date.
“The atmosphere is just so unbeatable,” Williams said. “Usually, when you go to a college or a big-time school, there is competition. You go in there to compete. Y’all are brothers, but you are competing. It is you vs. everybody else. But at Clemson, I never really felt that. I always felt you are going in there and it is just brothers. Competition is always going to be a thing, but you are brothers. It is always going to be like family.”
