Update on Clemson Guard’s ACL Recovery

Clemson guard Zac Foster appeared in 12 games off the bench as a true freshman for the Tigers last season before suffering a season-ending ACL tear against South Carolina on Dec. 16.

Clemson head coach Brad Brownell met with the media on Wednesday afternoon in the press room of Littlejohn Coliseum and gave an update on how Foster is doing in his recovery from the injury.

Brownell says that while Foster is doing well and hasn’t experienced any major setbacks, Brownell currently doesn’t believe Foster will be able to scrimmage during the team’s trip to Italy in late July.

“He’s doing well,” Brownell said. “A little slower, maybe, than we would like. I was hoping that he was going to be able to play some in Italy. But I think right now, maybe it looks like he won’t. I know we’re still over a month away from that.

“He’s shooting. He’s jumping. He’s running in a straight line. He’s got a brace and is starting to do more in terms of cutting and all the things that you need to do. But he’s progressing nicely. No major setbacks. But he’s not ahead of schedule or anything like that, either.”

In his limited action during the 2025-26 campaign, Foster averaged 6.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists across 18.6 minutes per game. He totaled five steals and three blocks, while shooting 81.8 percent from the foul line, 31 percent from the field and 27.7 percent from 3-point range.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder netted double-figure scoring in five games, including a career-high 14 in a win over North Alabama on Nov. 17. He also dished out three-plus assists in seven games, including a career-high six in the North Alabama game.

Foster was a four-star prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, he was the No. 65 overall prospect in the country and the 11th-best combo guard in his class. He chose Clemson over Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, Georgia and West Virginia.

As a senior, Foster averaged 17.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game and helped lead his Woodward Academy (Ga.) team to a 24-4 overall record and a 13-1 record within the 5A region. He was named the 2025 GHSA 5A Region 4 Player of the Year, while also earning an All-State First-Team selection, as well as Class AAAAA Player of the Year honors.
