After postponing his commitment date last week, Clemson target Seth Williams says he is getting closer to making a decision.
The four-star safety, out of Lakeside High School in Atlanta, was originally planning to announce his college destination on Friday, but a week ago, he revealed he was postponing. Instead of announcing a commitment on Friday, Williams sat down with The Clemson Insider to once again go over why he put off his announcement, and when he might be ready to make a decision.
While some might assume that a postponement meant a new school had entered the mix, Williams maintains this is still a Clemson-Georgia battle.
“No new schools,” Williams told TCI. “Of course, I am still being recruited by different schools, but I would let it be known if there was a new school to come into the picture. But I feel really strongly about these two schools.”
Clemson and Georgia were the only two schools to receive official visits. Williams did have officials scheduled with Florida and Ohio State, but ultimately scratched those from his slate.
“Clemson has been up there since I got the offer. That is my dream school,” Williams added. “Then getting Georgia, that was a dream come true also. It is two different feelings that these two schools hold. I always told my parents, they are big Georgia fans — everybody around me is big Georgia fans… my family in Florida are big Florida fans — but I always told my family that I am going to the school that is the best fit for me, where I would thrive the most.”
Williams has already committed to Clemson once back in the spring during an unofficial visit. However, after getting home, the talented defensive back realized he’d made that decision too quickly and immediately informed the staff he wasn’t ready. Having already gone through one decommitment, Williams isn’t planning to repeat that experience. He wants to be absolutely positive, and that is the reason for the postponement.
“I really wanted to wait and talk to God a little more because I feel like once the picture is clear, it is going to be see-through, like water. Like crystal water clear,” he said. “I don’t want to make a decision, then feel like I need to decommit or have to flip a commitment. I have never been one of those types of kids, and I always told myself I wasn’t going to be one of those types of kids. If I am loyal, I am loyal. Like how a school is loyal to you and holds your commitment, that is how I feel like it should be. Not disrespecting anybody else’s process. That is just how I want my process to be. Old-fashioned. Normal.”
As for when he might be ready to go public with a commitment, Williams says he will have an announcement on that in the near future. And when the time does come, there will be no drama. He feels too strongly about these two schools to do anything that could be perceived as disrespectful.
“I will be coming out with that soon,” Williams said. “By that time I will already have my decision made.
“I am not throwing no hats off the table. I am not burning no shirts. I am not discrediting any coaching staff.”
