Another former Clemson baseball player is headed to the SEC.
Right-handed pitcher Hayden Simmerson committed to Tennessee on Thursday. Simmerson spent one season with the Tigers, going 1-2 with four saves and a 3.62 ERA. He struck out 46 and walked 11 in 32.1 innings across 19 appearances. Opponents hit only .158 against and his WHIP was an impressive 0.90.
Prior to transferring to Clemson, Simmerson spent two seasons at Catawba College, where he was a two-time all-conference selection. He had 23 saves with a 3.48 ERA in those two seasons, striking out 146 in 126.2 innings across 57 appearances.
Simmerson is one of multiple members of last year’s team planning to transfer to the SEC. Infielder Jason Fultz. Jr. is headed to Ole Miss and outfielder/catcher Nate Savoie will play at Texas A&M.
Simmerson is draft-eligible, though, and with the MLB Draft set to begin on Saturday, there is a chance he could hear his name called and forgo his final season of eligibility.
