Swinney Gives Latest on Injured DT

One of Clemson’s injured defensive linemen is trending in a really good direction.

During Clemson’s annual media day on Monday, head coach Dabo Swinney provided an update on transfer DT Kourtney Kelly, who suffered a torn ACL during the first scrimmage of spring practice.

Swinney sounded optimistic about the chances of getting Kourtney back at some point this season.

“He is trending in a great direction,” Swinney said from the Allen N. Reeves Football Complex. “Anticipate getting him back at some point. Probably not a guy that will be full go in camp, but he is heading into a good spot. He has a better-than-great chance to be back at some point.

Kelly, who is entering his third collegiate season, was one of many portal additions for the Tigers on the defensive side of the ball. After redshirting during his freshman season at West Georgia, Kelly notched 17 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks and one fumble recovery.

Prior to his injury, the 6-foot-3, 290-pounder was one of several defensive tackles vying for a spot on the two-deep.
