Swinney on Denson Injury, New Role

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media Tuesday afternoon in the Smart Family Media Center as part of Clemson Football’s media outing.

Swinney gave an injury update on second-year player Chris Denson ahead of fall camp.

“He actually kind of tweaked his hamstring a little bit the other day,” Swinney said. “So, hopefully he won’t be too limited.”

On Tuesday morning, during Clemson’s media outing, offensive coordinator Chad Morris gave the latest update on Denson and how the Tigers plan to use him this fall. Morris shared that the talented athlete is still taking some QB reps, but has transitioned into more of a “hybrid” role and has also been working at wide receiver and running back.

Morris added Tuesday that the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Denson does “not yet” have a specific position title, and Swinney also commented on Denson’s new role, saying the Tigers will “figure it out” as they go.

“He’s open to figuring it out,” Swinney said. “We just haven’t been on the field with him to really truly get any type of evaluation. But he’s been working multiple things this offseason, so we’ll see and know more as we go through.”
