CHARLOTTE — This is considered talking season in college football, and coaches and players at their conference’s respective media days are asked all kinds of questions.
During Thursday’s second day at the ACC Kickoff from the Hilton Charlotte Uptown, new Virginia Tech coach James Franklin was asked about his relationship with Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and other coaches in the league.
“I am going to be honest with you,” Franklin said. “I am not going to say, necessarily, we are the type of people that love a lot of other coaches and a lot of other programs, it is hard when you compete year around. Not that they are bad guys, but when you are competing year around–games and recruiting–it gets edgy, right?”
However, Franklin says that is not the case when it comes to Swinney.
“Dabo has been a guy I have known for a long time,” he said. “When we go on the Nike trip. We usually hang out with the Nike people and Dabo and his wife. Obviously, I have tremendous respect for what he has built at Clemson and what he has done for the ACC.”
Franklin and his Hokies will play at Clemson this season, as Franklin makes his first trip to Memorial Stadium on Oct. 24.
