Clemson’s lone remaining recruiting target has set a new commitment date.
Four-star safety Seth Williams (Lakeside, GA) will announce his college destination on July 31. Clemson and Georgia remain the two finalists, and he has referred to both as dream offers.
“Clemson has been up there since I got the offer. That is my dream school,” Williams recently told TCI. “Then getting Georgia, that was a dream come true also. It is two different feelings that these two schools hold.”
The 6-foot-3 defensive back originally committed on the spot to the Tigers back in March after picking up his offer while on an unofficial visit. The next day, he informed the staff he’d made the decision too abruptly and decommitted, saying that he needed more time.
Williams’ recruitment then blew up, as he now has more than 50 offers in total. He went on to take several more visits throughout the spring after the decommitment. He would ultimately set official visits to Clemson, Georgia, Florida and Ohio State. However, the ones to Florida and Ohio State were canceled.
The blue-chip talent then announced a commitment date of July 3, but about a week out, Williams postponed after realizing he needed more time to make one of the biggest decisions of his life.
“Being able to be recruited at a later stage like I have is a blessing,” Williams also recently told TCI. “For me to blow up like I did, it was kind of out of the ordinary. I was in the spotlight for a minute, and usually when you are in the spotlight for a minute, it dimmers and you get to become a regular person again. For me, that didn’t happen. I quickly gained a lot of traction from bigger and better programs each and every time. Looking back on it, why not really make sure I know where I am going.”
“It is a blessing in disguise that it happened like this, but it is a gift and a curse because I didn’t have the time that the kids who were being recruited since their freshman or sophomore years had, and they had offers already. They knew where they were going or where they wanted to go. For me, it wasn’t really like that. For me to push my commitment date back and not commit when everybody else is committing, it is right for me and my family because we really didn’t go through the full process.”
The Tigers already have two safeties committed in the 2027 class, with four-star Harrison Luke announcing last year and four-star Jarrell Chandler announcing in May.
247 ranks Williams No. 25 among all safeties in the class and No. 22 in the state of Georgia.
