Two brothers, both hailing from Clemson, are now in the same secondary in the NFL.

That is the scenario that has played out for the Terrell brothers, AJ and Avieon, after Avieon was selected by the Falcons in the second round of April’s NFL Draft.

After being taken No. 16 overall in the 2020 draft, AJ quickly became a fixture on the backend of the Atlanta defense, and now Avieon is looking to take a similar path.

While Avieon is not expected to start when his rookie season gets underway, ESPN calls him an X-Factor in the Falcons’ secondary.

“Last season, Mike Hughes allowed 1.5 yards per coverage snap, much higher than average for an outside cornerback. Could Terrell, who was the Falcons’ first selection in this year’s draft at No. 48, end up being a better solution at outside corner opposite his brother A.J. Terrell Jr.? If so, that would be a good sign for Atlanta’s secondary.” – ESPN

After his three-year career at Clemson, Avieon was taken with the No. 48 overall pick, about midway through the second round.

The 2025 All-American and semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, tallied 128 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 30 pass breakups, three interceptions, four sacks, eight forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries during his college career. He was Clemson’s first AP All-American at cornerback since 2016 (Cordrea Tankersley).

Avieon set Clemson records for a defensive back in forced fumbles in a season (five in 2025) and a career (eight). He also led all cornerbacks nationally in forced fumbles across his three-year stint with the Tigers.
