Clemson’s lone remaining recruiting target, Seth Williams, is finally ready to reveal a decision.

The four-star safety (Lakeside, GA) has been down to Georgia and Clemson since early June, and was originally planning to announce a commitment on July 3. However, Williams ended up postponing the announcement and last week revealed it will now take place on July 31.

The reason for the postponement was fairly simple. Williams just needed a little more time to be sure. He’s already been through one decommitment after making a decision too quickly, and this time he’s taken the time to ensure he comes to the right decision.

“I didn’t want to wait until August,” Williams told The Clemson Insider. “I wanted to be able to give my all to my high school team. Friday night lights. Hearing the band playing. It is cool outside. There is nothing like it. You can’t really beat it. All your friends, your parents, your family, they all get to come to the game.”

As excruciating as this process has been, Williams feels that he can’t go wrong either way.

“This is one of those decisions where it is like a win-win,” Williams said. “It is also one of those things where you win now and win later, or just win for the rest of my life. These are two great programs. I have been blessed. A lot of people don’t get offered by both of these schools. Wherever I go, I feel like I have learned a lot from both of these coaches. The head coaches, the safety coaches, the nickel coaches, corner coaches, defensive coaches.”

Williams has more than 50 offers and is one of the top uncommitted prospects in the country. While he originally had official visits set with Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State and Florida, the latter two would ultimately get canceled after he zeroed in on the Tigers and the Dawgs. Both of which he has referred to as “dream schools” at one point or another.

He also feels like he would fit right in with either defense and has great respect for both coordinators —Tom Allen at Clemson and Glenn Schumann at Georgia.

“Coach Allen is a great defensive coordinator,” Williams said. “He is going to make sure perfection is key. He is going to make sure the little things get pointed out. He is going to take the time to make you the player he wants you to be and the player that you should be.

“Coach Schumann is like a defensive guru. He is never down. I feel like if you get coached by coach Schumann, then nothing can ever go wrong.”

While the 6-foot-3 defensive back has certainly enjoyed most parts of the recruiting process, this final part, the decision-making part, has been difficult. Less than two weeks from now, it will all be over, and Williams can turn his full attention towards his senior season, which is set to begin on August 21.

“A life-changing decision,” Williams said. “It has been a pretty hard decision. You don’t want to make the wrong decision but I feel like I can’t go wrong with either of these schools.”
