After years of battling injuries, enduring coaching changes, and facing “generational” prospect expectations, former Clemson star and current Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence enjoyed a breakout 2025 campaign where he was an NFL MVP finalist, as well as a finalist for Comeback Player of the Year.

Operating in his first season under Jaguars head coach Liam Coen, Lawrence threw for 4,007 yards, a career-high 29 touchdowns, and accounted for a franchise-record 38 total touchdowns while leading Jacksonville to the AFC South title.

Despite all that, is the 26-year-old Lawrence still underrated entering his sixth NFL season in 2026?

CBS Sports says so, labeling the former No. 1 overall draft pick as one of the NFL’s “underrated” QBs.

“Trevor Lawrence initially struggled to pick up Liam Coen’s offense, but once the lightbulb came on, he soared,” CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell wrote. “He led the entire NFL in total touchdowns with 24 across the last eight games of the regular season, a span in which Jacksonville went a perfect 8-0 to finish 13-4 and win the AFC South. Lawrence’s 38 total touchdowns ranked as the third-most in football last season behind only the league’s last two MVP winners: Matthew Stafford (46) and Josh Allen (39).

“Across the final six games of the 2025 season, Lawrence produced an absurd 19 total touchdowns to just one turnover. That feat made him just the third player in NFL history to record 19-plus total touchdowns and one or fewer turnovers in the final six games of a season, per CBS Sports Research. The other two players to do so are 2019 Drew Brees (20 total TD to one turnover) and 2020 NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers (21 total touchdowns to one turnover).”

Podell says Lawrence has the chance to entrench himself as one of the league’s best signal-callers.

“With scheme familiarity in Coen’s attack in 2026, Lawrence could solidify himself as a top-10 quarterback,” Podell wrote.

CBS Sports analyst Pete Prisco recently ranked Lawrence as the No. 65 overall player in the NFL heading into the 2026 season, while Lawrence came in at No. 62 in NFL.com’s Top 100 Players of 2026.

“Year 1 of the Lawrence-Liam Coen partnership went swimmingly,” NFL.com’s Bobby Kownack wrote. “After a couple down seasons, Lawrence returned to the trajectory of being a true franchise quarterback in 2025. Although things started slowly, Lawrence evolved into a fearsome force once he found his footing in Coen’s system, accounting for 19 touchdowns (15 passing, four rushing) and one turnover in his last six regular-season games. He finished fifth in MVP voting after his torrid stretch helped the Jaguars to their fourth division title in franchise history. If he can build off that progress, his third career appearance on the NFL Top 100 is only the beginning.”

Lawrence will head into the 2026 season having completed 62.8 percent of his passes for 17,822 yards and 98 touchdowns with 58 interceptions, to go with 1,442 rushing yards and 23 more scores on the ground, over his NFL career from 2021-25. The 2022 Pro Bowler has surpassed 4,000 passing yards three times in the last four seasons.

Before the 2024 season, Lawrence signed a five-year, $275 million contract extension with Jacksonville, including $200 million in guaranteed money and $142 million fully guaranteed at signing.
