Clemson has handed out two offers to tight ends in the 2028 recruiting cycle.

The first one went out to three-star Wright Martin (Christ Presbyterian, TN), who went public with offer last Friday, after a converastion with tight ends coach Kyle Richardson.

The offer comes on the heels of Martin camping at Clemson during the first week of June. He worked out during on the final day of camp. However, he first visited for the Furman game last season. Martin’s father (Ingle Martin) is a former quarterback for the Paladins, as well as a former fifth-round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers.

“He was probably one of the first coaches to ever come up and talk to me,” Martin told The Clemson Insider. “That was back in the fall, didn’t have any offers. No one really knew who I was. But coach Rich still took time out of his day to come up and talk to me and my mom on the sidelines, which meant a lot.”

Richardson made an impression on Martin during that first visit and the relationship has continued to blossom.

“It has been great,” Martin added. “From talking about football to talking about our families, going to church and everything in between. It has been great to get to know him. It’s been a great relationship.”

Being the first player at his position to secure an offer from the Tigers hit the mark with Martin, who attends the same high school as former Clemson linebacker Kane Patterson.

“It is truly honoring and humbling,” Martin said. “Just growing up, watching Clemson — Kane Patterson, a big-time linebacker recruit, went to my high school and went to Clemson. It has just been really cool.”

Georgia, Indiana, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and SMU were some of the other camps Martin attended this summer. The Bulldogs, Buckeyes, Cavaliers, and Hokies all offered after his workouts. The Mustangs had already offered. He now has more than a dozen in total.

Martin feels he turned in his best camp performance in Clemson. So much so thar head coach Dabo Swinney even took notice.

“I had camped at eight places this summer, and that was by far my best camp from just a competing standpoint,” Martin said. “I think I caught every single ball. Coach Swinney came up to me after, and he is like, ‘Who is this kid? Where are you from?’ He said, ‘You really impressed us.’ But they like to play slow, which I respect that.

“From there, I got coach Rich’s number, and we started getting in contact on June 15 and just kept building a relationship. I knew that I was kind of high on their board. Coach Rich would tell me how I did at camp just really blew out everyone’s thoughts and made a really good first impression on coach Swinney.”

Wtih all of the recent offers, Martin really hasn’t sat down and thought about a timeline for making a decision. He said it could be “sooner or later,” but that is something he and his family must discuss further in-depth. One of the biggest things he’s looking for is the best culture fit.

“The school that best fits me,” Martin said. “What I am looking for is culture and in a football aspect, and school education.”

One thing that isn’t high on the list of priorities is money. While it’s certainly a part of every recruitment these days, Wright says that part won’t drive the decision. Not to mention, as a tight end, he wouldn’t be expecting some major pay day coming out of high school.

“It definitely factors in a little bit. It is a big deal to be making money,” he said. “Obviously, tight ends aren’t going to be making quarterback money, or making millions, so I know that. But that is something that definitely helps a lot, as far as families and all that.”

Right now, the Tigers are in a strong spot, seeing as the program checks every box for the young tight end.

“I could really see myself at Clemson, just as far as everything they do culturally and with the team,” said Martin. “I feel like it just really fits me. Me and my parents talked about (Swinney’s) life story and how Jesus has helped him in life, and his walk with Jesus, and that is something me and my parents calue a lot. We are looking for somewhere like that.”
